What is “Reality”?
Who … or what … am I?
Is there a purpose to my existence?
What is consciousness?
What is the Universe?
This series of essays explores the writer’s lifetime search into these universal questions through the guidance of psychologist C.G. Jung and the mystic G. I Gurdjieff. The aim is to provide a practical outline of inquiry through ordinary language and examples, from the author’s personal and professional experiences, to illuminate a path towards an invisible reality behind our lives that shapes our personality, our reactions, and perhaps our fate.
But fate need not be destiny. There is a practical way to alter perception and begin to experience from behind our conditioned mind and feelings. If read actively, trying to locate within oneself the phenomena the author is trying to illuminate, the reader may find a hidden door open deep within their psychological world that has the potential to provide responses to these perennial questions and alter the sense of oneself and the meaning of life.
Science and Spirituality need not be in conflict, but can be complementary, each looking at different sides of the same equation … reconciled by direct experience of a higher quality of conscious awareness which can look simultaneously towards the World without and the World within. Then one may experience personal confirmation that Humankind is part of the Universe, and the Universe is part of Humankind. When this happens, there may appear a profound sense of participation in the mystery of existence through a Consciousness that seeks to know Itself and Its purpose in existing.
If any of these wonderings resonate for you, then I invite you to share with me this personal journey, recorded in essay and reminiscence, of my own search into the mystery evoking these questions. In the process, it is my hope that you will discover a direction of search that lies deep within your own psychological world … pointing to the great mystery of Consciousness … the seat of Awareness of Self.
