Getting to Salem

Transportation

Plane-Train & Bus from Boston

For anyone coming into Boston it is convenient to continue on to Salem by train. The train to Salem from Boston takes less than a half hour and leaves from North Station in Boston. The trains from Boston to Salem leave every hour, half hour, and fifteen minutes, depending on the time of day, as you can see from the schedule:

In addition to North Station, Boston has another major railroad station–South Station. For those arriving Boston via South Station or Logan Airport, job one is get to North Station.

North Station is about a mile from South Station and very easy to get to via the MBTA (subway system).

Another option to North Station from South Station is a $15.00 taxi ride that takes about 8 minutes.

From Logan to North Station, the Cab Fare should be under $25.00. Here’s a link to a site that calculates cab fares, and this is for a fare from Logan to North Station.

Here’s a link to a limo company for fares from Logan to the Hawthorne Hotel. They also have vans.

From the Airport* to Salem

* Logan International Airport in Boston, MA, is the closest airport.  It is a 30 to 45 minute drive from Logan to downtown Salem, depending on traffic. MassPort.com

Getting to Salem, Massachusetts from the airport is possible by taxi, car, and bus and train. Use the links below to open google maps that are prepared with routes and also check out the Newburyport/Rockport Line Train which goes from Boston North Station to Salem. North Station is near Logan, and as mentioned above, there are few ways to get from the airport to North Station.

By Car

By Car, Salem is accessible via Route 1A, Route 114, and Route 107.  The closest highway is Route 128, which connects to I-95.

Bus or Car from Logan Airport to Boston North Station

MBTA Commuter Rail connects Salem and Boston’s North Station to the south, Newburyport to the north, and Rockport to the northeast.  Salem is a 30 minute train ride from Boston. MBTA.com
